The panel will begin with a brief overview of the landscape of US investment in Africa from Robert Telchin (US DoC), after which panelists will give brief remarks about their experiences with private sector engagement in Africa. The panelists will then engage in a dialogue with the audience about the potential of innovative partnerships to shape future engagement among African and global universities; private sector investors; non-governmental and governmental actors and others to meet global challenges.

He currently serves as the Director of Mcity, which studies connected and autonomous vehicle technologies and promotes their deployment. He has served as the PI or co-PI of more than 50 research projects, with a total funding of more than 50 million dollars. He has more than 250 technical publications, including 110 in referred journals and transactions and four books. His h-index is 69 according to the Google scholar analysis. The total number of citations to his work is more than 18,000. He believes in setting high expectation and helping students to exceed it by selecting innovative research topics with real impact. One of his proudest achievements is that more than half of his Ph.D. students have each published at least one paper cited more than 100 times.

Speaker Phumzile Mazibuko Ms. Phumzile Mazibuko was appointed Consul General at the South African Consulate General in Chicago in January of this year. As consul General, she works to promote trade and investments and enhance cooperation in the field of arts, culture, education, and effectively render consular services to South Africans in 14 states in the Midwest region of the United States. Prior to this post, she was Chief of Staff for the Department of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa. Ms. Mazibuko has been working though her professional career to further business relationships between South Africa and its trading partners. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Johannesburg. Joining Consul Mazibuko is South African Consul Political Mr. Thabo Seotlo. Consul Seotlo is also a career diplomat, spending the past decade serving South African interests around the world. Those interested in setting up a private meeting with M. 2019 Sports Business Luncheon with former Major League Baseball Umpire Rocky Roe! TheFormer MLB umpire recently spoke at the 2019 Sports Business Luncheon on Tuesday, April 9th at the University Club of MSU! Rocky was first brought up to the American League after the 1979 umpires' strike. He worked the 1990 World Series, 1994 All-Star Game and 1999 World Series most notably, in addition to four Division Series and three League Championship Series.
