The internationally renowned faculty at the Eli Broad College of Business bring a global perspective to education, preparing students and industry professionals to be competitive, successful leaders. This global approach to business is integrated throughout the curriculum. Students at the Broad School are able to specialize in international business, participate in education abroad programs and become active members in student organizations like the International Business Student Organization. To foster the development of a global mindset, the Broad College requires an approved course or experience with significant international content.

Learn MoreThe Eli Broad College of Business offers a limited number of scholarships to qualified MSU business students on a competitive basis. Students qualify to apply for scholarship for ONE program only per academic year. To apply for an education abroad scholarship from the Broad College, students must indicate on their program application that they wish to be considered for a scholarship. Students who indicate this will simultaneously be considered for awards from both MSU EA and the Broad College of Business. No additional application is necessary; however, students should be aware of the eligibility requirements below in order to receive a scholarship from the Broad College. Please note that these requirements may differ from MSU EA scholarship requirements.

The Broad School provides grants to faculty, doctoral students, and staff for curriculum development, professional development, and research. In unique cases, the Broad School, via its Center for International Business Education and Research, also provide grants to faculty and doctoral students from other universities as a part of its mission to increase the international competitiveness of the U.S. Click on the appropriate link to apply for one of these three grants.
The Broad School also has a long-standing tradition of receiving external grants that help leverage other forms of funding provided to the school for research, teaching, and outreach activities (e.g., public funding, contracts, corporate support). The grants come from various agencies (e.g., National Science Foundation, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of State), corporations (e.g., AT Kearney, Dow Chemical, FedEx, Hershey Foods, IBM, Nabisco, UPS, Whirlpool), and associations (e.g., Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, Institute of Supply Management, Marketing Science Institute).
To apply, select the type of international business grant you are interested in below (to adhere to the Federal regulations governing the scope of the Centers for International Business Education and Research, please ensure that your grant is international business-oriented by reading the editorial on “What Makes a Study Sufficiently International” by Rosalie L. Tung and Arjen van Witteloostuijn in the Journal of International Business Studies).
Priority will be given to grant proposals that demonstrate that the grant will help support one or more of the following four critical areas of national significance:
Research/discovery that helps U.S. companies enhance their competitive advantages in the global marketplace is a top priority for MSU-CIBER. Faculty and doctoral students are invited to apply for MSU-CIBER grants to support research projects that are of importance to international competitiveness of U.S. firms.
MSU-CIBER operates on a monthly review cycle, and proposals may be submitted at any time. As a policy, MSU-CIBER supports scholarly activities that have a significant international dimension. All research grant requests that involve international travel must be submitted no later than 45 days prior to departure, due to new federal grant requirements. The conditions of grants involving travel include adherence to Travel Regulations (section 70 of the MSU Manual of Business procedures) as well as federal regulations regarding use of CIBER grant funds. The latter include using U.S. carriers and traveling coach/economy class, i.e., not business or first class. Grantees are required to follow the instructions provided on MSU-CIBER Traveler’s Checklist.
