During the 2020–2021 academic year, the International Business Center (IBC)/MSU-CIBER conducted a survey of Community Colleges from around the nation to assess the extent to which Community Colleges have created a global mindset through curricular and non-curricular activities in their institutions. This research study benchmarks the unique nature of Community Colleges in providing international education to the U.S. population. Two groups of stakeholders from Community Colleges were sent online surveys: senior administrators and faculty. Each group was asked to respond to a different survey designed to address questions relating to international business education as a foundation for creating a global mindset among students at the Community College level. This edition of the Global Mindset Index (GMI) is based on the Academy of International Business (AIB) Curriculum Survey and the American Council on Education (ACE) Survey. Specifically, the pillars of the AIB and ACE surveys have been mapped to the five pillars of GMI. These pillars include Strategic Commitment, Program Offerings, Organizational Infrastructure Funding, and Investment in Faculty. The GMI survey also introduces a new metric – Global Knowledge – to understand how Community Colleges prioritize their students’ global mindset. This survey was conducted by the International Business Center/MSU-CIBER at Michigan State University and funded by the U.S. Department of Education with a Title VI CIBE Grant.
