According to Lansing's Refugee Development Center as many as 500 new arrivals from around the world resettle in Lansing, which makes our community among the top 10 cities in the nation for global refugee resettlement. Mid-Michigan regionally gains 13,000 international immigrants, representing 20 ethnicities each year. This fun, family event shines a spotlight on Lansing's diversity. Last year's event featured over 25 exhibits and nearly 2,000 people turned out to celebrate the rich multicultural heritage of our community.

Technological advances in our global economy and free trade have created unparalleled opportunities for U.S. companies looking to expand products and services into the international marketplace. They have also created the need for a well-trained, globally focused and educated workforce capable of supporting American business interests abroad. The U.S. Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration, in partnership with the Economic Development Administration, the Minority Business Development Administration, and other federal and regional strategic partners, has organized this event to highlight the range of trade opportunities for U.S. businesses. Seminar participants will engage senior government representatives and leading experts from the private sector and academia on key issues related to the U.S. economy and its relationship to the global marketplace. The program includes keynote speakers, panel discussions, one-on-one meetings, and valuable networking opportunities with representatives from government, industry, academia, regional international trade associations and economic development organizations in Puerto Rico.

The monthly GB Club luncheons provide outstanding speakers and relaxed networking opportunities. With extensive international experience, the speakers wrap personal insights around a practical and up-to-the-minute approach to conducting international trade. The luncheons are open to the general public. Typically, about 100 business executives, public policy makers, and academics attend each luncheon.

This interdisciplinary conference provides undergraduate students the opportunity to gain valuable experience organizing and communicating their ideas and original research to others in a public forum.

The Broad School's Global Initiatives, with the leadership of CIBER Director Tomas Hult and MSU-CIBER as a central component, are integrated on a new website, Global Initiatives. The website is part of the Michigan State University Broad School's Global Initiatives that include increasing the international competitiveness of U.S. organizations and leveraging the unique global brand of the Broad School.
