Dr. Raghunath Subramaniyam will talk about what it takes to lead and manage multinational firms in India? Within a few decades, India will be the worlds most populous nation and one of its largest economies. But it is also a complex and challenging market. Many global companies are therefore cautious when it comes to investing in India. But India is not a market that can be ignored. A $2 trillion economy growing at 5-6%, it is an important market. Even more importantly, India is an archetype for most emerging markets, many of which present similar challenges but not the same potential. The discussion will include findings of a detailed longitudinal study of a large MNC in healthcare focusing on their India and emerging markets operations. This study will be used to illustrate how a large MNC has retained strategic flexibility in its own specific ways of adapting to the emerging markets in Asia such as India. We will discuss the emerging business environment in
India specifically with the changes in the government and its policies with specific focus on healthcare.
