IBC/MSU-CIBER is part of two consortia, namely the Minority Serving Institution (MSI) Consortium as well as the CIBER MSI/CC Consortium (CMCC).
The Minority Serving Institution (MSI) Consortium is a collaborative effort of 10 CIBER schools to meet the educational and training needs of faculty and students at the nations MSIs, including the Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs). Activities include: (i) weekly IB Webinars on teaching and research for business faculty; (ii) IB Pedagogy Newsletters distributed to over 3,000 educators, (iii) International Business Pedagogy Workshops held annually over four-days in Atlanta; and (iv) annual International Business Case Competition for undergraduate business students of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
The CIBER MSI/CC Consortium (CMCC) is an outreach consortium among several CIBERs to provide funding opportunities via academic and administrative support (curriculum and program development, student study abroad, internships and work studies, faculty and professional development programs, and business foreign language training) to previously underserved and underrepresented faculty, staff and students from Minority Serving Institutions and Community Colleges (MSI/CC).
Supporting the internationalization efforts of community colleges nationwide has always been one of the main priorities of IBC/MSU-CIBER since the beginning of its existence. Nationwide, community colleges play a critical role in workforce development, and with the unstoppable impacts of globalization, it is more important than ever to further the skillsets of these graduates to develop globally competent workers.
Under the International Business Institute (IBI) umbrella, IBC offers several programs and resources to community college instructors, administrators, and leaders to help them with their internationalization initiatives as follows:
IBI on the Road workshops aim to provide participants with the knowledge, experience, and resources they need to internationalize general business courses and/or develop specialized international business courses at the two-year college level. These in-person or virtual workshops also offer a comprehensive coverage on the development of international business programs at community colleges.
Offered in partnership with the CIBERs at Brigham Young University, George Washington University, and the University of Washington, as well as Community Colleges for International Development (CCID) and the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE), IBI on the Road workshops provide a full-day program covering a set of below sessions.
College Name | Date | Location |
---|---|---|
Lone Star College | November 2022 | Houston, TX |
Bridge Valley Community College | March 2021 | Virtual |
Lone Star College | February 2021 | Virtual |
If you are interested in organizing a workshop at your college, please email itc@msu.edu.
In 2021, IBC launched a virtual program series named Community Colleges Go Global (CCGG). Similar to IBI on the Road workshops, CCGG webinars aim to assist the internationalization of community colleges with tailored programs. CCGG webinars are designed as half-day virtual programs for community college members that cannot commit to travel and day-long programs. These program focus on two specific areas:
With the CCGG webinars, participants gain valuable knowledge about strategies of teaching international business and internationalizing their courses, learn about a plethora of online resources for course content, and discuss ideas for designing engaging and interesting class activities. These webinars are open to all community college faculty, administrators, and leaders.
If you are interested in participating a CCGG webinar, please email itc@msu.edu to get information about our upcoming programs.

Since 2009, MSU’s International Business Center in the Eli Broad College of Business has been offering Pro Bono customized international market research for Michigan businesses that are striving to engage in the global marketplace. MEGP involves faculty, staff, and students who provide free service to local companies to assist them in taking the best possible advantage of opportunities in the global marketplace. The program also creates student leaders while building sustainable communities and fostering community partnerships.
Started with a seed grant from the Ford College Community Challenge, Michigan Export Growth Program (MEGP) is currently funded by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). Each year, IBC offers this service to a select number of local firms in coordination with MEDC. Small-to-medium-sized Michigan businesses that would like to be considered for MEGP can reach the MEDC International Trade Managers in their region to get more information.
IBC developed ExportMI as a resource for Michigan companies that need export-related information and assistance. In conjunction with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), IBC continually develops and maintains the statewide, export-focused website to provide up-to-date information to local businesses.
The website offers tools, resources, and directories for Michigan businesses looking to export. Major features include:
