This program will feature panelists from the US Department of Commerce (USDoC), private sector companies engaged in African investment, and African University representatives. The panel will begin with a brief overview of the landscape of US investment in Africa from Robert Telchin (US DoC), after which panelists will give brief remarks about their experiences with private sector engagement in Africa. The panelists will then engage in a dialogue with the audience about the potential of innovative partnerships to shape future engagement among African and global universities; private sector investors; non-governmental and governmental actors
and others to meet global challenges.

Shantanu Sarkar is a U.S. Commercial Assistant based in Kolkata, India. As the Commercial Advisor in the U.S. International Trade Administration's Commercial Services team, he works with U.S. businesses to help them enter and navigate the Indian market. Mr. Sarkar joined the U.S. Commerical Service in 2008 and is responsible for the development of U.S. trade and business in Eastern India and adjoining Bangladesh. Mr. Sarkar has over seventeen years of diverse professional experience in the field of marketing, business development, and operations. he is part of several important commercial initiatives to support the emerging economic partnership between the U.S. and India, and is the team lead in India for the mining and industrial materials sectors.
